Solar Innovations, Inc. Completes Berman Slider Project

Located in Hiduchi, California, the Berman Slider project consists of three multiple track, sliding glass doors. Shown in the picture to the left is Unit C of the project, the largest of the three sliding glass doors.

Each of the doors is finished with Dark Bronze Anodized frame finish and features Douglas Fir veneer on the interior. A one inch insulated, high performing glass of LoE 272 was used for the glazing of each door system. These Solar doors were created for a residential customer.

SHOP

PAINTER
Industrial or automotive painter to paint our custom structures using HVLP equipment in safe, clean, and up to date SHOP. Must be able to work with urethane paints with 2-part epoxy primers. Extreme attention to detail a must. Position consists of 30-40 hours of painting and 10-20 hours of light fabrication work. A standard 4 day work week. Hours typically Monday thru Thursday, with Fridays on an as needed basis.

INSTALLER CREW LEADER
Experienced glazer/installer to lead installation crews in installing aluminum and wood structures. Typical four-day workweek. Travel distance usually within 4 hour radius with possible occasional overnight travel required. Experience in roofing, siding, sheet metal and construction a plus. Supervisory experience preferred, but not required. Opportunities for advancement and career advancement.

OFFICE
PROGRAMMER WITH CRYSTAL REPORTS AND WEB DESIGN EXPERIENCE
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
• Create and maintain reports from the companies ERP system using Crystal Reports.
• Create and maintain content and features on existing web page to support marketing using Dreamweaver 8.
• Maintain and transfer internally developed work flow system to Microsoft Share Points site.
• Create, modify and monitor Microsoft SQL stored procedures and Jobs to transfer data between systems for data analysis.
• Create Ad-hoc reports per requests from managers.
• Document and train technical and non-technical personals on newly added or modify features.
• Support, debug, enhance, and tune existing features of internal Microsoft Access/SQL applications.
• Research and investigate new technologies to enhance structure of reports and applications.
• Migrate Business processes over to Microsoft Share Point
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Programming in Visual Basic, ASP, ASP.NET (C#), XML, and HTML.
• SQL 2005 TSQL, DTS, Analysis Cubes, and Performance tuning.
• Reporting software i.e. Crystal Report, SQL Reporting Services, Microsoft Access Reporting.
• Excellent skill with Excel, Word and Access including Access Project
• Microsoft Share Point server and Designer
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent documentation skills; and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team.
• Progress OpenEdge Database and Epicor Vantage experience a plus.

COMMERCIAL ESTIMATOR/PROJECT MANAGER
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
• Creates a client network internally and externally that meets and exceeds the company’s sales objectives. Facilitates customer service and customer relations,
• Ability to read architectural drawings and do material take offs along with estimate/quote,
• Exception communication skills to ensure customer satisfaction and effective project management for project flow from quote origination to project completion,
• Excellent Computer Skills/High level of urgency to meet deadlines/Impeccable attention to detail

REQUIREMENTS:

• 2 or 4-year degree in a construction related field or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience.
• 3 or more years of experience within the commercial construction industry
• Experience in glass and glazing industry beneficial
• AutoCAD, architectural plan reading ability is a necessity
• Experience taking off architectural drawings, preparing detailed shop drawings, managing multiple projects, developing labor and material costs helpful

Solar Innovations, Inc. Welcomes New Team Members

Solar Innovations would like to welcome three new team members!

We would like to welcome Colleen to our Accounting Department!  Colleen has hit the ground running, devoting her time not only to her accounting duties, but also to spear-heading an inventory project that will help keep track of all materials needed for Solar to work proactively to manage our inventory to assist in meeting our quarterly and annual goals. Colleen is learning quickly, and we know her accounting experience will be a valuable asset to the team.

We would also like to welcome Jesse to the team!  Jesse has a background in purchasing and inventory control and he is very enthusiastic and eager to learn.  His primary focus will be in the Purchasing Department, as well as assisting our Project Managers whenever needed, and both departments are looking forward to the experience that Jesse brings.
 
Lastly, we would like to welcome Joseph! Joseph will begin learning fabrication. As he becomes more acclimated to the department, he will be spending time in various shop positions to assist wherever he is needed. We look forward to his flexibility in being able to support our shop, and we know he’ll be a great addition to the team.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Hosts Blood Drive

September 10th 30 employees participated in the semi-annual Solar Blood drive.  Although only 27 were able to donate, Solar was able to set a new company record!  The new facility afforded us some much needed space to better host this worthy event.  Each donor provides the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank with 1 pint of blood, only 1/10th of what is in the average adult body. Thank you to all those team members who participated in this worth cause, every two second someone needs blood, and Solar has done our part.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Completes Unique Skylight for Historical Yale Society

Solar Innovations, Inc.,  a custom manufacturer of residential and commercial conservatories; greenhouses; sunrooms; skylights; folding, tilting, and sliding glass doors, walls, windows, and screens; has recently completed a unique skylight for a historical Yale society in New Haven, Connecticut.

With exceptional design ingenuity, Solar Innovations® was able to create a completely symmetrical pyramid skylight that allows for a unique aesthetic appeal. This orthogonal structure provides the observer below the skylight with a diamond-shaped view of the sky.

All of the rafters in skylight are the same depth on the bottom and share the same angles in order to maintain the desired geometric shape; Solar utilized two different aluminum systems, one on top of the other, to achieve this. While most skylight designers would not be able to maintain their weep system at intersecting points of the jack rafters, Solar Innovations’® integrated weep system remained intact, preventing water from entering the structure. This skylight measures 16 ½ feet long, 16 ½ wide, and 5 feet high. With the flexibility of Solar Innovations’® combined aluminum systems, skylights such as this may be manufactured larger or smaller depending upon the customer’s wishes. Solar Innovations® has created pyramid skylights up to 55 feet in length and width for previous projects.

The skylight was created for the Manuscript Society at Yale University, and in addition to being an orthogonal structure, the skylight is also curb mounted. The welded curb of Solar Innovations’® curb mounted skylights provides greater protection against leakage and shorter installation time. 

A high performance glass of LoE 272 was used to glaze the skylight. This type of glass is energy efficient and will still allow for large amounts of light to be let into the building through structure.

This particular skylight was finished in a Black frame finish, one of Solar Innovations’® standard colors. Solar Innovations® offers seven standard colors of Black, Hartford Green, White, Sandstone, Natural Clay, Mill (unpainted), and Bronze, as well as two anodized colors of Clear Anodized and Dark Bronze Anodized. Custom finishes are also available upon request. Wood interiors are viable options for Solar’s skylights, solid wood is available in Mahogany and Spanish Cedar while wood laminates are available in Douglas Fir, Southern Yellow Pine, Northern White Pine, and Western Red Cedar.
