Solar Innovations, Inc. Dresses Up

Solar Innovations, Inc. is dressing up today Monday, October 31st. Team members are encouraged to participate. Solar will award prizes to some of the best costumes at the end of today.  Please read our blog tomorrow to see a picture of all the great costumes and an announcement of all the winners.  Please remember to be safe this Halloween and to think green when purchasing costumes.  Some ideas of how to be green is instead of buying expensive cheaply made costumes, go to thrift stores and find cheap used clothes and accessories.  Another idea is instead of buying a new costume, swap with a friend saving you and your friend money while reusing the same costumes from other years.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Visited by the "Contractor of the Stars"

On September 13th, Steve Fanuka, the “Contractor to the Stars,” paid a visit to our manufacturing facility. Solar is currently manufacturing a greenhouse for one of Mr. Fanuka’s clients.

The visit was filmed for an upcoming segment on Fanuka’s new television series, “Million Dollar Contractor,” which premiered on the DIY Network at 10:00 PM on October 16th.

According to an official press release from DIY, the show offers “a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most amazing spaces and construction of Manhattan’s high-end luxury homes.”

Fanuka and his crew toured Solar’s facility under the guidance of our production manager Frank. Frank’s interview with Fanuka will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Million Dollar Contractor.”  More pictures and behind the scenes video can be viewed at Solar Innovations, Inc.’s Facebook page.

Solar Innovations Inc. Visits Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Solar Innovations travels around the United States to various trade shows.  We were recently in Atlanta at the GlassBuild show.  While the company was in town, I stopped by the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  Anywhere I travel I always have to go and see the local gardens.  This was a beautiful facility. Not the largest conservatory that I have ever visited but it definitely had a unique feel to it.  There is an orchid room within the main conservatory.  Instead of being lined up on a wall for display, the plants were designed into the landscaping.  Inside this room was a pergola that extended the entire span of the space, with staghorn ferns, orchids and other plants growing from the trusses.  The room had water features, miniature hills and trees.  It was in essence a scaled down version of a tropical rainforest, complete with humidification and misting.  The orchid selections were very exotic in appearance.  Definitely not an average phael from Lowe's.  Stanhopeas were in full bloom at the garden, with numerous varities on display.

Solar Innovations, Inc.'s Completes Work at the Capital Grille

Solar Innovations, Inc. recently finished work with Bellisle Construction Inc. on a segmented radius wall system at the Capital Grille in Plano, Texas.  The project included a 17-panel radius split wall system where 9 panels opened to the left and 8 panels opened to the right.  Each panel measured 3 feet wide and 7 1/2 feet tall.  All the framing featured Solar Innovations, Inc. Dark Bronze Anodized finish.  The 272 glazing helps assist the tempeature control between the seasons, as well as adding some protection from the sun.  With this system completed, Capital Grille patrons will now be able to enjoy fresh air on on favorable weather days while being protected from weather elements in poor weather conditions.

Solar Innovations, Inc.'s International Window System

Solar Innovations, Inc. recently developed a universally functioning window system, labeled the International Window System (IWS), because of its compatibility with both American and European window systems. The IWS integrates casements, awnings, hoppers, and European multi lock Tilt Turn systems all within one frame.  Fixed windows can be placed over awning windows; smaller window sizes are available; and mulled configurations are possible with this design.

European and American systems have never been integrated in the past. These units can now incorporate thermal breaks and insulbar technology, which greatly improves efficiency.  American crank dyads will be featured as the system’s standard hardware (additional hardware options will also be possible with the IWS). Integrated nailing flanges are available and provide the best method for flashing into an existing rough opening. 

The IWS can also be integrated into Solar Innovation, Inc.’s glass structures, such as conservatories, greenhouses, pool enclosures, and sunrooms.  Insect screens are a standard feature of each unit.  All grid types are offered in the IWS.

The system will be impact, acoustic, and NFRC tested.  Solar’s traditional window system is 2 7/8" deep, while the IWS is only 2 ½" deep, saving space.  The window will also weigh less which can assist in reducing costs. Glass stops will be on the interior of the window.  In the mulled system, the unit has a fixed window next to a projected window, thus the stops must be on the window’s exterior.  The International Window System has interior glass stops, which have superior security and water seal performance.

Solar Innovations Inc. Fall Conservatory

 

At the Pine Grove plant we have a conservatory on the premise.  It serves as a show piece for visitors.  I like to change the seasonal decor.  Everything was green and purple for summer but I decided to change it to oranges for fall.  The picture here shows the new look.  The change is very simple.  I switch out the table cloth for the pumpkin colored one and added a fall centerpiece.  The table settings remain the same for the majority of the year, and will be used for the Christmas display.  I also tend to change the plants in the conservatory.  There was a bright pink oleander blooming but it did not feel very fallish, the pink was too summery for the new decor.  I replaced the oleander with the purple begonia which has more of a fall feel.

Kyle has developed an interest in Solar Energy, and has experience installing solar panels.
