Solar Innovations, Inc. recently installed a segmented, irregular wood curtain wall system in the Northeast. This massive vertical wall was 16 feet long, 17 feet wide, and had a max height of almost 24 feet. The interior framing for this wall was ten inch deep Walnut finished with three coats of ICA finish. The exterior was finished in Solar’s Natural Clay Duracron. The vertical wall included a motorized interior mounted shade system that featured shades in each of the five segmented bays. Another additional feature for the wall included a pair of remote controlled motorized screens. In addition to the segmented vertical wall system, the project required two three-panel folding glass wall systems. The doors also included a Natural Clay exterior finish and a Walnut veneer interior to match the vertical wall. The glazing for the project consisted of “LoE” 366 glass to protect the wood from becoming brittle from the solar rays and provided the best insulation during the winter months. The project turned out to be a huge success and provided excellent views of the waterfront in the back of the residence while being protected from the elements and insects.
