Two years ago we planted two pineapples. The leafy top of a pineapple was removed from a fruit that came from a local grocery store. The excess fruit was removed from the base and placed in water to grow roots. After two weeks we realized the top did not take so we tried again, this time placing the section in soil. It did the trick and the plant took root. Each plant continued to grow. After six months one plant was moved to a second greenhouse where it was placed in the ground, while the remaining pineapple remained in a container. The in-ground pineapple grew larger and quicker but the container pineapple set a fruit this week. It will take 3-4 months to have a ripened pineapple. After discussion and research we think that the larger pineapple does not have consistent temperature. The plant is located right beside an entrance door to our facility and receives cold blasts of air, probably shocking the plant. Eventually this plant will give fruit but for now we are thrilled with our one plant.
