Solar Innovations, Inc. Supports Relay for Life

Solar Innovations, Inc. is always looking for new ways to support and give back to the community. Recently, Solar signed up to participate in a local Relay for Life that is being held at Pottsville High School. Team members were encouraged to raise/donate money for the cause – or to simply attend the event this Friday and Saturday. Solar sponsored various incentives to raise money for this including “jeans days”, “hat days”, a jelly bean guessing contest, and the ability to leave three hours early one day!

The effort was a huge success – we are thankful to all of our team members for helping us raise over $1500!

Solar Innovations, Inc. Wins 2013 NSA Design Awards

The National Sunroom Association (NSA) announced the winners of the 2013 NSA Design Awards at NSA’s annual meeting in New Orleans.  The 2013 Design Awards mark the ninth anniversary of the competition.  Solar Innovations, Inc. of Pine Grove, Pa. won in the following categories:

• Existing or Wood Roof Sunroom Above $50,000
• Glazed Roof Sunroom $35,000 - $50,000

Solar Innovations, Inc. was also the finalist in the Glazed Roof Sunroom Above $50,000 category for a private home.

Award Criteria

The National Sunroom Association Design Awards recognize excellence in the design and installation of sunrooms, solariums, and patio rooms. Over thirty-five entries of sunrooms, solariums, and patio rooms constructed in 2012 were submitted for this competition. All entries were judged on the basis of 1) aesthetic appeal, 2) how well the sunroom, patio room, or solarium enhances the architecture and natural surroundings of the home or commercial setting, and 3) its interior appeal and functionality.

To increase the diversity of entries, all sunroom designs were judged by four different cost levels, as well as three different roofing types.

The National Sunroom Association is a member-directed trade association dedicated to the advancement of the manufacture and construction of safe, energy-efficient and environmentally-conscious sunrooms, patio rooms, and solariums.

Solar Innovations Inc. Banana Tree

Solar Innovations is growing a banana tree in a tropical greenhouse, located in Pennsylvania.  During winter the greenhouse is heated while during the summer door and windows are the only cooling method.  Right now the greenhouse is around 75-80 degrees each day.  Each year the tree produces bananas and it takes eight months from bloom to harvest.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Showroom Update 4: SI3000C Clear Glass Wall System

Solar Innovations, Inc. recently installed an 8-panel SI3000C Clear Glass Wall System in its second floor conference room. The single door system features an out-swing door that opens left, while the other seven panels stack to the right. The clear glass wall stretches across a 30 feet opening and each panel measures approximately 9.5 feet tall by 3.5 feet wide. The clear wall, like the stacking wall across from it, allows the conference room to be transformed into a separate room or opened to expand the auxiliary training area.

Similar clear wall systems have also been installed at Coors Field and Husky Stadium this year. With the panels not including any vertical framing, spectators can see through the glass with no interruption.

Solar Innovations Inc. Cold Frames

The cold frames here at our manufacturing plant are looking full and healthy.  The plants are very happy inside the cold frame.  All of the plants were started inside the cold frame in April.  Now in May there is lettuce, brocolli, pansies and brussel sprouts growing.  One cold frame is devoted to raising plants in the ground while the second frame has containers filled with lettuce and radishes.  As the temperature continues to rise the cold frames will be filled with summer vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Showroom Update 3: SI33350F Monster Folding Glass Wall

Solar Innovations, Inc. recently installed a G3 Monster Folding Glass Wall in its upstairs showroom. The 6-panel double door mid wall system features 10' 4" tall doors that operate with a dual wheel trolley. The trolley allows the panels to operate easily. The doors also feature a two-tone finish that feature Solar's White Duracron on one side and Solar's Dark Bronze Anodized on the other.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Showroom Update 2: SI3350S Stacking Glass Wall

Solar Innovations, Inc. recently installed a stacking glass wall in its corporate facility. The wall separates a flex training area and the computer training lab. The system features Solar's Dark Bronze Anodized framing for the eight panels, each approximately measuring 10 feet tall by 3 feet wide. Stacking glass doors are individual panels which slide along a top hung track and stack to a remote location. When open, the panels in this system all stack into a pocket, allowing for the two rooms to become one with a 24 feet opening.

Solar Innovations, Inc. Showroom Update 1: Lumira Curtain Wall

Solar Innovations, Inc. recently installed a Lumira curtain wall in the second floor of our Corporate Manufacturing Facility. The massive curtain wall spans over 75 feet. 8 of the 15 panels feature Lumira polycarbonate infill, four of which are 25mm opal polycarbonate. The remaining four are 25mm clear triple wall polycarbonate. Lumira aerogel’s main purpose is to increase thermal ratings, but can also greatly reduce sound transmission.The use of  Lumira can even aid in the acheivement of LEED goals.
